What are backlinks?
Backlinks (also known as "inbound links", "incoming links" or "one-way links") are links from one website to another. Google and other major search engines consider "backup" backlinks for a particular page. Most backlinks have high organic search engine rankings.

Why are backlinks important?
Backlinks are basically votes from other websites. Each of these votes tells search engines: "This content is valuable, reliable and useful".

Backlinks are links to a web page.

When a web page links to another page, it is called a backlink. In the past, backlinks were an important metric for web page ranking. A page with a lot of backlinks ranks high in all major search engines, including Google. This is still largely true.

Here is a dictionary of general terms related to backlinks that you should know:

Juice Link: When a web page links to your articles or the homepage of any website, this "link juice" passes. The juice of this link helps to rank the article, and also improves domain authority. As a blogger, you can stop the flow of links by using a follow tag.
No follow link: When a website links to another website, but there is no follow in that link, the link does not flow. No follow-up links for page rank are not useful because they do not support anything. Typically, a webmaster uses a non-follower tag when he or she contacts an unreliable site.
Do-Follow Links: By default, all links included in your blog post are do-follow links and this pass link juice.
Connecting to root domains: This refers to the number of backlinks to your website from a unique domain. Even if a website links to your site ten times, it will be considered as a rooted domain only.
Low quality links: Low quality links are links that come from farm sites, automated sites, spam sites or even pornographic sites. Such relationships do more harm than good. This is one reason you should be careful when buying backlinks.
